Definition CKD Stage 3

CKD Stage 3 eGFR 30-59 mls/min

Initial investigations

Dipstick urine and repeat biochemistry if no previous data.

Send urine for Protein/Creatinine ratio if dipstick positive for protein

Consider renal ultrasound if urological symptoms, or high risk of renal artery stenosis

Consider diagnosis

Monitoring

Check eGFR, FBC and urine dipstick every 6 months (recheck after 2 weeks if first abnormal eGFR)

Treatment

Treat underlying condition

Modify lifestyle

Treat hypertension

Assess and treat other complications

Educate patient

Referral guidelines

Not all patients need referral

Refer if diagnosis unclear

Refer if significant proteinuria or underlying systemic disease

If no proteinuria refer if progressive decline in eGFR >5% annually
